Latest NewsOxford Centre for Islamic Studies We have been continuing our work on this exciting and extensive project and hope to finish the enlarged design scope by the end of September 2010. The project materials now include: twelve marbles from Europe, Turkey and the Middle East. Eight granites from the Middle East and Turkey. Six limestones from the Middle East, Europe and England. All these materials give fifty four combinations of the different thicknesses and finishes used in various locations. To date we have two hundred and sixty different floor areas, one hundred and seventy four counter tops, nine stone staircases and four different fountain and water feature elements. During last year we have completed the main terraces, the Minaret balconies, the Quadrangle including a beautiful four colour marble fountain in Islamic patterm. We are currently installing the floors to the Lecture Theatre consisting of square patterned areas in English Ancaster cream limestone contrasted with Belgian Fossil Black limestone Medusa has also been appointed to carry out the build-up ground works to the Prayer Hall Courtyard prior to fixing the patterned granite paving. This area consists of 60mm granite laid to falls in a cone to a perimeter channel without any cross-cuts to the paving. The paving will then be machine honed once laid to give the final finish. We are also pleased to announce that the Client has asked Medusa to instruct the Fountain Workshop to carry out the design for mechanical and electrical of the Main Forecourt, The Yemen Fountains and the water features for the Prince of Wales Gardens with the expectation of installation in the near future. The materials being used for these fountains are White Afyon Turkish Marble with Green Balaban plinths, Red River Granite (Ahmar Al-Ahmar) and black granite for the water features and rills. Gainsborough House Following the completion of the design, Medusa has been storing various stone, cut and uncut for reuse in this impressive reworking and extension of the original buildings. The project has, due to the economic situation, been set back and will be scheduled to start once the Client's design reviews have been completed. We very much look forward to carrying on to completion the new Lower Borough Walls and associated buildings in the near future. Medusa NEW Manufacturing Facility During the past year the Company has been considering options to update the manufacturing capacity of the business. We are now pleased to unveil our new Italian GMM Egil 36 CNC Bridge Saw, recently purchased from Pisani UK. Currently there are only four Egil 36 saws in the UK and they represent top of the range technology with the highest specification for any such saw being manufactured today. Weighing in at 5 tonnes due to the cast iron bridge, this saw has full profiling capacity with router and flat blade adaptions for complicated mouldings and counter tops. The saw is directly linked to our office CAD systems that allow computer design files to be loaded into the saw. The complete system is linked with a Lindo water filtration system that circulates water for the saw, our faithfull Jenny Lind polisher and the hand-held and mechanical profiling equipment. To service our new capacity we have installed forty five metres of galvanised slab rack in our quarry yard and thirty metres at the saw shop. These racks are capable of holding eight hundred slabs and are currently holding around three hundred and fifty slabs for our current production. We are looking forward to cutting materials for facades, floors, staircases and mouldings for our current and future projects with supply only if required. Conservation Projects Medusa has historically carried out restoration and conservation projects and over the years has developed a core of dedicated conservors. We believe that now is the time to seek out major conservation projects for the Company. With a proactive management team, qualified in conservation stonemasonry, we are confident that we can approach future conservation projects in a new and exciting way. Following this approach and preserving the highest quality standards, we have forged an agreement with the Consultant and Conservor Nicholas Durnan to act with Medusa. Nicholas will assist and advise us to strengthen our existing Consultancy and we look forward to many successful future projects. Future Contracts The Company is still providing Consultancy for projects in the Middle East. This is expected to finish later this year. We are currently looking at two new projects in the concept stage that will hopefully move to design during 2010. We are currently negotiating two new conservation projects for this year and will be looking to build up our portfolio with other new contracts. Medusa is still actively pricing and looking to carry out new contracts with the Major and Main Contractors Group. Last review 10.05.2010
